Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor and film producer Jackky Bhagnani were injured in a ceiling collapse accident while shooting for their upcoming film, Mere Husband Ki Biwi.
The incident took place during a song sequence on set in Mumbai’s Imperial Palace, Royal Palms.
Reports suggest that the collapse was triggered by vibrations from the sound system used during the shoot. Though no life-threatening injuries occurred, multiple cast and crew members were hurt. Arjun Kapoor sustained minor injuries, while a camera attendant suffered a spine injury, and the director of photography (DOP) fractured his thumb.
Choreographer Vijay Ganguly, who was overseeing the song sequence, recounted the terrifying moment. “We were on the monitor when suddenly the ceiling collapsed. Luckily, the ceiling fell in parts, and we had a trough to protect us. Had the entire ceiling fallen, it could have been disastrous, but many people still got hurt,” Ganguly shared.
Safety concerns have once again surfaced following this accident, highlighting potential hazards of filming at older shooting locations.Vijay Ganguly expressed his concern, saying, “These old locations are often used for shoots, and as production companies, we are sure safety measures are checked. However, many times, the safety of the location isn’t properly verified before it’s offered for shooting.”
Following the incident, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reached out to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), urging them to implement stringent safety protocols on film sets.
Despite the setback, the production team of Mere Husband Ki Biwi is determined to finish the film in time for its scheduled release on February 21. The romantic comedy, directed by Mudassar Aziz, stars Arjun Kapoor alongside Bhumi Pednekar and Rakul Preet Singh.
Mudassar Aziz spoke positively about the film's progress, saying, “I’ve always believed in making wholesome entertainers that bring families together. Mere Husband Ki Biwi is lighthearted, relatable, and full of moments that stay with you long after you leave the theatre.”
The film’s production team has assured the public that despite the accident, they remain committed to meeting the release date, ensuring that the film’s completion is on schedule.
