Kate Middleton shares heartfelt moment with cancer patient during hospital visit

Kate Middleton connects with a cancer patient during a visit, sharing her emotional attachment to a chemotherapy port.

On January 14, the Princess of Wales, 43, made a surprise visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital, where it was confirmed she had received treatment at the center and would be joining Prince William as a patron. During her visit, Princess Kate met with patients undergoing treatment and staff, sharing a personal reflection with one patient about her experience with chemotherapy.

According to the Daily Mail, Princess Kate spoke about her feelings regarding a chemotherapy port while meeting Katherine Field, a 45-year-old patient wearing a cold cap (used to prevent hair loss during chemotherapy). The Princess of Wales gestured to her own arm and chest as she shared, "I got so attached to it," and joked that she hesitated when told, "You can have it taken out now."

While Princess Kate did not go into further details, the Cleveland Clinic defines a chemo port as a small implantable device attached to a vein for administering treatments, including chemotherapy. In March 2024, Princess Kate revealed she had been undergoing cancer treatment, choosing to step away from the public eye to focus on her health. In September, she shared that she had completed her chemotherapy.

A Kensington Palace spokesman explained that Princess Kate visited the Royal Marsden to express gratitude to the staff and highlight the world-class care the hospital provides.

Although the Princess of Wales has not revealed the specifics of her diagnosis, she shared after her visit to the hospital on January 14 that she is in remission.
