Carrie Underwood has sparked significant backlash after it was revealed that she will perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025. The 41-year-old country singer is set to sing "America the Beautiful" during the ceremony. Underwood, who has typically refrained from commenting on political matters, is now facing criticism from many of her fans.
A spokesperson for the Presidential Inaugural Committee confirmed Underwood’s participation in the event. In response, Underwood expressed her honor at being invited to perform, saying, "I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event." She added that she hopes for unity and looking toward the future.

Despite her statement, Underwood's decision has led to widespread criticism, particularly from LGBT+ fans. Many expressed disappointment, accusing her of contradicting her previous support for gay marriage. One Instagram user wrote, "Don’t ever call yourself an LGBTQ ally again," criticizing her for supporting Trump, who is often seen as opposing LGBTQ rights.
Underwood will be joined by the Armed Forces Choir and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club at the inauguration. Her involvement contrasts with her previous interactions with Trump; in 2017, she and Brad Paisley performed a parody at the Country Music Awards mocking his social media habits.
Apparently I’m the only one who remembers Carrie Underwood becoming some weird anti-vax person in 2020 and is completely not shocked at her performing at Trump’s inauguration

This marks the latest controversy surrounding Underwood, who also faced backlash in 2021 after "liking" an anti-mask video on Twitter. Underwood first rose to fame after winning American Idol in 2005.
