Kathy Bates, the Oscar-winning star of Misery, turned heads and sparked conversation during her appearance at the 2025 Golden Globes. The 76-year-old presented the Best Supporting Actress - TV award alongside Twisters actor Anthony Ramos, where her noticeable weight loss and frailty led fans to express concerns.

Over the past seven years, the star dropped a total of 80lbs after focusing on a healthier lifestyle, and lost an additional 20lbs after using Ozempic

Social media users commented on Bates’ condition, with one writing, “Hope Kathy Bates is OK… Did anyone else notice she had to hold onto her co-presenter to steady herself?” Others questioned if she was ill or suggested she had taken Ozempic, a weight-loss medication.

Bates recently addressed her weight-loss journey, revealing she had dropped a total of 100 pounds over the past seven years, including 20 pounds through the use of Ozempic. In an October interview with People, she clarified: “There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic. But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.”

Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2017, Bates has focused on prioritizing her health. Despite the mixed reactions at the awards ceremony, her dedication to her wellness journey remains an inspiration to many.
