CD Projekt has revealed that more than twice as many in-house developers are working on The Witcher 4 compared with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, highlighting the continued growth of development teams behind major video game releases.

According to the company's latest financial update, 513 developers are currently assigned to The Witcher 4 as the project enters what executives described as its most intensive stage of development.

Joint chief executive Michał Nowakowski said, “As we are now in the most intensive phase of The Witcher 4 development, the team has grown to 513 developers, while the Cyberpunk 2 and Sirius team also grew by a dozen or so. This reflects a stable organizational setup that has the right capabilities and expertise in place.”

The figure places The Witcher 4 close to the scale of Cyberpunk 2077, which was developed by 530 in-house staff members.

The numbers do not include external contributors such as voice actors, outsourcing partners or other occasional collaborators.

For comparison, CD Projekt disclosed in 2015 that The Witcher 3 had a core development team of around 240 people, although approximately 1,500 individuals contributed to the project at various stages.

Cyberpunk 2077 eventually involved more than 5,000 contributors across its full development cycle.

The company indicated that the current team size is considered appropriate for the project. Vice-president of investor relations Karolina Gnaś said the studio believes it currently has the right balance of expertise and skills, though staffing could be adjusted depending on future requirements.

The announcement also reflects a broader trend across the games industry, where development teams for large-scale releases have expanded significantly over the past decade.

The original Witcher game was reportedly developed by a team of around 15 people. Nearly two decades later, The Witcher 4 has become one of CD Projekt's largest productions, with more than 500 developers currently working on the next chapter of the role-playing franchise centred on Ciri.
