On the first day of 2025, following the end of winter vacations, 62 new cases involving divorce, khula (female-initiated divorce), child custody, and kharcha (maintenance) were registered in family courts across Rawalpindi district.
The courts have approved these cases for hearings, issuing notices to the husbands and requesting their responses.
Moreover, three husbands have filed cases against their wives who had left their marital homes and moved in with their parents.
The courts approved these cases concerning house settlements, issuing notices to the wives to respond.
The surge in family cases on the very first day of the year is being viewed as an alarming trend for 2025. Lawyers specialising in family law predict a similar volume of new cases over the next three days, which are currently being prepared for filing.
Advocate Masood Shah noted that the eight-day winter break prevented the filing of cases during that period. However, he emphasised that the steady increase in family disputes signals a troubling decline in the stability of the family system.
