Veteran journalist Alisyn Camerota announced her departure from CNN on Sunday via Instagram, marking the end of a 10-year tenure with the network. Camerota, 58, expressed gratitude for her career-defining experiences, which included interviews with presidents, heroes, and other notable figures.
In a heartfelt message during her final CNN broadcast, Camerota reflected on her journey. “It’s been an honor to share these peak career experiences and to be in viewers’ homes during pivotal moments,” she said. Camerota did not disclose the reasons for her departure or her next steps but promised updates in the future.
Camerota joined CNN in 2014 and co-anchored programs like New Day, CNN Newsroom, and CNN Tonight. Before her time at CNN, she spent 16 years at Fox News, later speaking publicly about experiencing harassment from former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. Her experience earned her the title of “Fox News whisperer” in a 2019 Hollywood Reporter feature.
The Emmy-winning journalist also made her mark as an author, publishing the memoir Combat Love in 2023 and the novel Amanda Wakes Up in 2017. Camerota has recently faced personal challenges, including the loss of her husband of over 20 years to pancreatic cancer in September.
Camerota’s announcement comes during a period of notable departures from CNN. In recent weeks, Chris Wallace, another former Fox News anchor, left CNN to pursue streaming and podcasting opportunities. Poppy Harlow also exited earlier this year amid programming changes.
Camerota’s colleagues praised her work and legacy. Former co-anchor Poppy Harlow commented, “You are the definition of grace, wit, smarts, and joy.” CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell added, “Congratulations on a great run! You are a terrific anchor and journalist.”
Camerota’s departure marks the conclusion of a remarkable chapter in her esteemed career.
