Joe Rogan has recently lost his long-held position at the top of Spotify’s podcast charts, but the change comes with some context. When Rogan first signed an exclusive deal with Spotify, his podcast saw a massive surge in listeners, making "The Joe Rogan Experience" (JRE) one of the most popular shows on the platform. For years, JRE has maintained the top spot in several key metrics, including overall listeners and hours streamed. However, Rogan’s reign at the top has been occasionally interrupted by the launch of new shows or standout guest appearances on other podcasts.
As of early December, Rogan has been overtaken in the United Kingdom by a brand-new podcast, The Rest Is Classified, which focuses on espionage and spy-related topics. Despite only having three episodes released so far (excluding the teaser), The Rest Is Classified has quickly risen to the top of Spotify’s UK charts. This new show also displaced Rogan’s podcast in Ireland, Sweden, and Denmark. However, Rogan's show still holds the top spot in the US, Canada, and Australia, maintaining its global presence.
Other podcasts, such as Shawn Ryan, Crime Junkie, and ChainsFR, are also gaining traction and closely following Rogan’s show on the US charts. While Rogan’s podcast continues to dominate many regions, the rise of new shows indicates that the podcast landscape is becoming more competitive. As the podcasting space continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Rogan and other top podcasts fare in the coming months.
For now, Rogan’s podcast remains one of the most influential, though The Rest Is Classified is proving to be a strong new contender in the UK market.
