Drew Barrymore brought some movie magic to her show when she surprised Wicked star Ariana Grande with the original Glinda wand from the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz. Grande, who portrays Glinda in the upcoming Wicked film, was left speechless when Barrymore revealed the historical artifact, which was once owned by the Smithsonian and is now in private hands.

During the surprise, Barrymore excitedly introduced the wand to the stunned pop star. "I have something that's extremely exciting and special," Barrymore said. "For the purposes of our sit down, they loaned it to us." Grande, in disbelief, joked, “Are you serious right now?” before pretending to run off with the wand in hand.

As a perfect match for the wand’s magic, Grande, clad in pink, received high praise from Barrymore: "You look so perfect with it." Grande, overwhelmed with excitement, asked, “How did you even... pull this off?” Barrymore explained that the surprise was a team effort, with the production crew rallying together once they knew Grande would be on the show.

Though Grande didn’t get to keep the coveted wand (it was on loan), the moment was a magical treat for both her and viewers. The original Glinda wand is a piece of film history, and for Grande, it was a fitting tribute to her long-standing connection with the beloved character of Glinda, a role she’s cherished since childhood.

Grande, who first saw Wicked on Broadway with her mother, shares a special bond with original Broadway Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth. In fact, Chenoweth not only passed the wand to Grande but also made a brief cameo in the new Wicked film, which is already breaking box office records.
