Five members of a family were found shot dead in a locked house in a private housing colony on Shashmahi Canal Road, Bahawalpur on Tuesday. A young girl was also discovered unconscious at the scene.
Rescue teams broke the locks to enter the house after a neighbour reported that all occupants appeared unconscious.
Upon entry, they found the lifeless bodies of the family, who had been shot.
The victims included 40-year-old Kashif, his 36-year-old wife Arooj and their three children: 15-year-old Jehanzaib, 13-year-old Abdullah and 9-year-old Abdullah Wahab.
The unconscious girl was rushed to the hospital, while the police and forensic teams began collecting evidence from the scene.
District Police Officer (DPO) Asad Sarfaraz, along with senior police officials and forensic experts, arrived at the site to lead the investigation.
Initial findings revealed that the door of the room where the bodies were found was locked from the inside, raising questions about whether the case was a result of robbery, enmity, or another motive.
Bahawalpur RPO Rai Babar Saeed addressed the media and stated: "The crime scene and forensic teams are working meticulously. It is too early to confirm whether this is a case of murder or suicide.
Once the facts are clear, the media will be informed."
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the police have assured a thorough investigation from all angles.
