The third installment in the 'Orphan' horror franchise has been officially announced, with Isabelle Fuhrman returning to her iconic role as Esther. Lionsgate revealed the project at the American Film Market (AFM) this week, confirming that David Coggeshall, writer of 'Orphan: First Kill,' and William Brent Bell, known for 'The Boy' series, will also be back. The plot details are under wraps, but Norman Golightly, Co-CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment, expressed confidence in the film’s appeal, stating, “With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.”
Dark Castle Entertainment and Gnosis Films are producing the film, while Lionsgate will oversee international sales. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is also involved as an executive producer. The franchise has garnered a global following, with the first film, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, becoming a cult favorite. Released in 2009, 'Orphan' grossed over $78 million worldwide. The 2022 prequel, 'Orphan: First Kill,' expanded Esther’s story, focusing on her escape from a psychiatric facility and her complex interactions with a wealthy family, amassing $45 million globally.
Fuhrman, whose recent roles include 'The Hunger Games' and 'The Novice,' is represented by UTA and Luber Roklin. Director Bell, known for titles such as 'The Devil Inside' and 'Stay Alive,' is represented by CAA. The film’s expected continuation of Esther’s twisted story has already sparked enthusiasm among horror fans, who are eagerly awaiting the franchise’s next chapter.
