Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has responded to allegations of a romantic relationship with New York Magazine's Washington correspondent, Olivia Nuzzi. The claims were first reported by journalist Oliver Darcy in the Status newsletter, suggesting Nuzzi and Kennedy had a personal relationship after Nuzzi profiled him in November 2023. Kennedy’s spokesperson responded to the report, stated and denied those claims saying , "Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece."
Kennedy, who partially suspended his independent presidential campaign in August and endorsed Republican candidate Donald Trump, remains married to actor Cheryl Hines. Nuzzi, in a statement to The New York Times, acknowledged that her communication with a former subject had turned personal earlier this year but emphasized, "The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict." Nuzzi also expressed regret, stating, "I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I've disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York."
New York Magazine placed Nuzzi on leave, confirming the relationship violated their standards regarding conflicts of interest. The publication has launched a third-party review of her work, which has shown no signs of bias or inaccuracies.
