RAWALPINDI:

The families of two youths who were killed in an alleged police encounter in the Chakra area within the limits of Naseerabad police station staged a protest by blocking the Peshawar Road on Friday.

The demonstrators placed the bodies on the road and chanted slogans demanding justice from the government. The families claimed that the two victims, Muzzamil and Subhan, were cousins and students who were wrongly killed by police.

They revealed that Muzzamil's father works abroad, while Subhan's elderly father, who was present during the protest, said that police had unjustly killed his son and his nephew. He added that the protest aimed to seek justice from the government to prevent future police brutality.

A large number of locals participated in the protest, chanting slogans against police. The protest caused long traffic jams on the main Peshawar Road, causing difficulties for travellers.

On the other hand, a senior police officer who wished to remain anonymous claimed that the two youths killed during the encounter were robbers, and they were also involved in mobile phone snatching incidents in Chakrha.

The officer said the robbers had been identified by the complainants and that stolen mobile phones were recovered from them. The officer added that police could conduct an inquiry into the encounter if the families demanded it.
