Chappell Roan emphasises boundaries: 'I feel the most unsafe I have ever felt in my life'

Chappell Roan re-stressed the importance of personal boundaries in a recent Instagram statement.

Chappell Roan has once again spoken out against fans who cross personal boundaries, emphasising her right to privacy when she's not working. 

On Friday, the singer addressed her concerns on Instagram, following an earlier TikTok video where she criticised "weird" fan behaviour.

The 26-year-old artist released a six-page statement, explaining that she had disabled comments on the post because "this isn’t a group conversation." Roan stated, "I’m not afraid of the consequences for demanding respect," underscoring her commitment to maintaining personal boundaries.

Roan related her experiences to those of other women, expressing that "every woman is feeling or has felt similar to what I’m experiencing." She questioned why her efforts to express her fears and boundaries were met with such resistance, noting, "This isn’t a new situation."

The singer, known for hits like My Kink Is Karma and Good Luck, Babe!, reiterated the distress caused by fans who approach her outside of her professional commitments. Roan explained, "For the past 10 years I’ve been going non-stop to build my project, and it’s come to the point that I need to draw lines and set boundaries."

She further clarified that she is not obligated to reciprocate attention or energy to those she does not know or trust. Roan pinpointed the behaviour of some fans as "predatory behaviour (disguised as ‘superfan’ behaviour)" that has become normalised due to the treatment of well-known women in the past.

Roan emphasised that choosing a career in the public eye does not mean she must accept being "touched" or "followed" by strangers. She likened the situation to the harmful idea that a woman deserves harassment for wearing a "short skirt."

In closing, Roan shared her feelings of fear and fatigue, stating, "I feel the most unsafe I have ever felt in my life." The singer, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, also asked fans to refrain from using her given name and thanked them for their understanding and support.
