KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi General Secretary Taufiquddin Siddiqui, who is also the chairman of UC1, Model Colony, issued a three-day deadline to restore uninterrupted water supply to Malir and adjoining areas and said that otherwise the area residents would block the National Highway.

The JI leader was addressing a protest demonstration over the acute water shortage in the area.

A large number of area residents, carrying placards and banners, chanted slogans against the government over its flawed policies and corruption. Siddiqui held PPP government in Sindh and the mayor responsible for the prevailing crisis.

Talking about Malir and adjoining areas, he said that prolonged power outages at Damloti Pumping Station resulted in water crisis in the area.

He demanded of the government to declare the Damloti Pumping Station load shedding free within the next three months. The JI leader further said that the mega city needs 1300mgd, whereas the supply clocks in 650mgd.

He added that a large amount of water is wasted due to the rusting pipelines and criminally syphoning to illegal hydrants.
