Fans gathered in Vienna to sing Taylor Swift songs amid news of the concerts' cancellation due to terror threats.

This week, Taylor Swift fans faced unexpected disappointment when her “Eras Tour” concerts in Vienna were cancelled following a planned terrorist attack. 

Kristi Hovington and her family, who had traveled from Barcelona to celebrate her daughter’s 14th birthday at the concert, found their plans derailed. “Obviously, she was devastated when we heard the news last night,” Hovington shared with Variety. “There were a lot of tears shed in the hotel that we’re at.”

The cancellation resulted in the loss of airfare, hotel costs, and the highly anticipated concert experience. Despite the setback, the local community and fans gathered on the street.

In Vienna, Swifties gathered in the streets, creating a makeshift vigil to mourn the loss of the shows and their invested time and money. Social media captured scenes of fans drawing chalk messages referencing Swift’s lyrics and singing her songs.

Attendees congregated on Corneliusgasse, reminiscent of Swift’s “Cornelia Street,” to sing “Cruel Summer.” The atmosphere became a poignant mix of sadness and solidarity, as fans continued to support each other. 

Local churches and businesses extended their support, with one church offering a space for fans to sing and find comfort.

Josie Martin, another attendee from Grand Rapids, Mich., noted the community spirit among the fans. “Walking around was kind of adorable,” she remarked, reflecting on the mixed emotions of the event. “Despite the cancellation, people were trying to stay positive.”
