ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed taking tough decisions necessary to revive Pakistan's economy, prioritising national interest over politics to save the country from bankruptcy.

During a meeting in Islamabad with members of the National and Provincial Assemblies from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) at the PM House, he was joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Ameer Muqam, K-P Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, and other senior officials.

The premier expressed gratitude for divine blessings in steering the economy towards improvement, emphasising the government's commitment to the development of K-P, particularly the merged districts. He highlighted the historical precedence of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) prioritising the development of these areas.

He assured that the government would ensure the provision of quality health and education facilities in these districts. To provide international-standard education to the local students, the government plans to establish Danish Schools in the region.

Addressing the issue of electricity theft, the PM called on elected representatives to assist the government in curbing this problem, noting that annual losses due to theft amount to billions of rupees. He highlighted ongoing reforms in the electricity sector aimed at reducing theft and enhancing efficiency.

PM Shehbaz also mentioned the nationwide initiative to convert tubewells to solar energy, which will not only boost agricultural development and provide farmers with low-cost electricity but also save billions of dollars in fuel imports.

Furthermore, he announced significant relief in electricity bills for the poor and middle-income classes, reflecting the government's commitment to providing relief to the public.

Emphasising the tough decisions taken to revive the economy, he reiterated the importance of prioritising national interest over politics to prevent the country from defaulting. He urged the lawmakers to work diligently within their constituencies and make public welfare their top priority.

PM Shehbaz announced the formation of a committee chaired by the deputy PM to seek sustainable solutions to the issues faced by the elected representatives from K-P. The assembly members praised PM Shehbaz's leadership in improving Pakistan’s economy and briefed him on issues within their constituencies
