Salma Hayek recently expressed her pride after participating in the Olympic Torch Relay ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On July 24, Hayek, 57, joined 174 other torchbearers to carry the Olympic flame from Rambouillet to Versailles. The actress shared her experience on Instagram, where she described the moment as an "honour" and emphasised the values of "light, hope, peace, and unity" symbolised by the torch.
"Yesterday, I had the honor of carrying the Olympic flame, a symbol of light, hope, peace, and unity ♾️. If you believe in these values, know that you were with me every step of the way," said Hayek in her post.
"As I passed the torch and took part in the relay, I was proud to represent the enduring spirit of the Olympics, bringing light, hope, and unity to all. #Olympics #Paris2024."
Hayek's Instagram also featured images of her in ceremonial attire alongside prominent figures such as politician Rachida Dati, French footballer Presnel Kimpembe, and singer/actor Patrick Bruel.
The relay is a significant part of the build-up to the Paris Olympics, set to commence on July 26.
The 2024 Paris Olympics torchbearers were chosen for their commitment and embodiment of the core values of the Games, including "sports and the Games," "communities," and "the collective."
Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris 2024 Olympics, noted that the relay represents a "human adventure" reflecting the diversity and richness of society.
Hayek prepared for her role by listening to Eminem's "Lose Yourself," and shared behind-the-scenes content on Instagram. Her upcoming film, directed by Angelina Jolie, will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
