Singer-songwriter and actress Olivia Rodrigo has publicly endorsed US Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential race. Rodrigo's support comes after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election. Known for her advocacy of women’s reproductive rights, the 21-year-old artist used her social media platforms to share her endorsement.
Rodrigo posted an Instagram Story featuring a TikTok clip of Harris's speech on abortion rights. In the clip, Harris states, “And we who believe in reproductive freedom will stop Donald Trump’s extreme abortion bans because we trust women to make decisions about their own body and not have their government tell them what to do.” Harris further pledged, “When Congress passes the law to restore reproductive freedom, as president of the United States, I will sign it into law.”
Rodrigo’s endorsement aligns with her long-standing commitment to reproductive rights. She has previously launched the "Good 4 U Fund," an initiative aimed at eliminating barriers to abortion access. The fund, named after her hit song, allocates a portion of ticket proceeds from her "Guts" tour to cover costs associated with abortion procedures, travel, childcare, and lost wages.
Apart from Rodrigo, several other celebrities have shown their support for Harris’s presidential bid. These include George Clooney, Barbra Streisand, Aaron Sorkin, Spike Lee, Jamie Lee Curtis, Charli XCX, and John Legend.
