Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is well-suited to handle the high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift, according to his coach, Andy Reid. In a recent interview on the Athletic’s “Scoop City” podcast, Reid expressed confidence in Kelce's ability to manage the attention that comes with dating a global superstar. “He can handle [the attention],” Reid said. “As a matter of fact, I think he probably loves it to a point.”
Reid, 66, described Kelce, 34, as “outgoing” and noted that the athlete has "kind of grown into it.” He added, “He comes into a room and he’s going to light the room up. Everybody’s his best friend. Until you prove him wrong, everybody’s a friend.”
Reid also discussed how attending Swift’s Eras Tour concerts serves as a “great escape” for the three-time Super Bowl winner. “When he goes to her concerts, she’s the star,” Reid explained. “He can be hanging out there and be the support or the water boy, so he can do that.” Similarly, Reid noted that Swift, also 34, found solace in watching Kelce’s NFL games last season, allowing her to "escape having to be the show."
Swift and Kelce began dating in July 2023, going public with their relationship two months later. Travis’s brother, Jason Kelce, commented on the couple’s fame during a “Whiskey Ginger” podcast episode in June, saying, “Travis and Taylor have taken it to another level. Like, you can’t be a normal person at that point.”
Despite the intense public scrutiny, the couple has been open about their relationship. “We’re showing up for each other; other people are there, and we don’t care,” Swift told Time magazine in December 2023. Travis echoed this sentiment on “Good Morning America,” emphasizing his grounded nature thanks to “good family and friends” around him.
In June, Travis made a headline-grabbing cameo onstage during Swift’s London concert, an appearance he admitted was his idea. He initially suggested “roll[ing] out on one of the bikes” during the show’s “1989” segment, ultimately finding a fitting part of the show to join in.
