Suki Waterhouse, the beloved British model and musician, has opened up about her journey from London It-girl to Los Angeles mother and her relationship with actor Robert Pattinson. Waterhouse, known for her distinctive style and candid personality, shared her experiences in an interview with Olivia Marks, accompanied by photographs by Colin Dodgson and styling by Julia Sarr-Jamois at Vogue.
During the interview, Waterhouse discussed her transition to motherhood, recalling the final stage of her pregnancy when she set up a makeshift recording studio in her Los Angeles home. She described how she and Pattinson were in full nesting mode, transforming their home to prepare for the arrival of their baby. Waterhouse humorously noted Pattinson's efforts, saying he was doing things he had never done before, such as shopping at The Grove on a Saturday evening.
Despite the challenges, Waterhouse managed to finish her album, "Memoir of a Sparklemuffin," just before giving birth. Reflecting on her postpartum experience, she mentioned the criticism she faced for performing at Coachella six weeks after giving birth. She emphasized the importance of not comparing oneself to others, stating, "You just have to go, 'This is what we're doing, this is what we're about and fuck what anyone else thinks'".
Waterhouse also spoke about her music career, revealing that it was her role in the TV series "Daisy Jones & The Six" that gave her the confidence to pursue music more seriously. Her debut album, "I Can't Let Go," was released in May 2022 on the Sub Pop label.
Discussing her relationship with Pattinson, Waterhouse shared that they met at a games night in Los Angeles and quickly connected. She expressed her joy at their relationship, saying, "I had a very clear feeling of being like, 'Oh, wow, Rob and I have been together six years and I'm still really into this'".
Looking back on her journey, Waterhouse reflected on the lessons she has learned and the resilience she has developed. She concluded by expressing her contentment with her current life, stating, "All these chaotic ways that my life went, it was always material... I wake up in the morning feeling really great".
"Memoir of a Sparklemuffin" is set to be released on 13 September.
