Olivia Rodrigo speaks out about Taylor Swift feud rumours ahead of new album
Rodrigo reflected on online scrutiny of her career, including rumours about tension with Swift in a podcast appearance

Olivia Rodrigo has addressed years of speculation surrounding her relationship with Taylor Swift while discussing the pressures of pop superstardom ahead of her new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, released on June 12.
Speaking on Popcast with hosts Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica, Rodrigo reflected on the intense online scrutiny that has followed her career, including rumours about tension with Swift, who she once openly described as an idol.
The discussion revisited the long-running public fascination with the pair’s relationship, particularly after Swift received a retroactive songwriting credit on Rodrigo’s song.
Referencing recent fan speculation after both artists were seen leaving a concert in Los Angeles, Rodrigo dismissed the online detective work surrounding her personal life.
“Yeah. I don't know. I don't really like read too far into it. I think it like comes to the territory and it's part for the course,” Rodrigo said on the podcast.
“And I I think if I dove into every internet detective sleuth that like got things right or wrong about my life or any of my relationship, I think I'd just go crazy. Like there's just not enough time in the day.”
The speculation began after Rodrigo openly credited Swift’s “Cruel Summer” as inspiration for parts of “Deja Vu”, leading Swift, Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent to later receive songwriting credits on the track.
Fans subsequently began analysing interviews, lyrics and public appearances for signs of tension between the two artists.
Rumours intensified following the release of Rodrigo’s song “the grudge” in 2023, which many listeners interpreted as being about a fractured relationship with a former mentor, although neither singer has ever confirmed the claims.
Their recent appearance together at the Paul McCartney concert reignited debate over whether the reported feud ever existed at all.
Rodrigo also discussed criticism over her appearance, relationships and political views, saying public commentary has become an unavoidable part of modern pop fame.
