Meghan McCain thinks Taylor Swift is “messing” with karma, beats Charli XCX to no.1

The host speculated if Taylor Swift was stopping artists like Billie Eilish and Charli XCX from gaining top spots.

Meghan McCain, known for her outspoken commentary, raised eyebrows on her podcast, "Citizen McCain," discussing Taylor Swift's recent dominance in the music charts. 

McCain addressed social media buzz suggesting Swift strategically prevented other artists, like Charli XCX and Billie Eilish, from securing top spots.

Swift's latest move involved releasing multiple versions of her album The Tortured Poets Department in the U.K., bolstering its hold on the top position for six weeks. This tactic allegedly edged out Charli XCX's debut album, Brat, which landed at No. 2 on the charts dated June 14. Similar maneuvers were rumored in the U.S., where Swift reportedly countered Eilish's album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, last month.

"You are Taylor Swift, you are Elvis-level, one of the greatest of all time," McCain remarked during her podcast. "There are people coming up who could have their first No. 1 and you have the power to let them have No. 1 or not. … I just don’t know how classy it is."

Expressing concerns about karma, McCain questioned Swift's strategic decisions. "I also think that, karmically, you’re messing with some stuff," she mused. "I get that The Tortured Poets Department is doing this well … but I do think maybe more focus on music and art instead of, like, checks on a scoreboard."

Despite acknowledging Swift's achievements and global tour success, McCain suggested a temporary hiatus from the limelight could benefit Swift and her audience. 

"She has TIME magazine’s person of the year, this tour’s so big … I do think when she’s done touring, giving us a mild break from being in the news cycle as much as she is would be helpful for her, and us as commentators."

Additionally, McCain found it peculiar that Sabrina Carpenter, who opened for Swift on tour, collaborated with Kim Kardashian on a SKIMS campaign. Carpenter's comments about seeking Swift's approval raised eyebrows. 

"Was she scared of retribution from Taylor Swift or Taylor Swift’s fans?" McCain pondered, suggesting potential complications in their professional relationship.

As Swift continues to dominate headlines with her music and personal life, McCain's remarks add to ongoing discussions about the singer's influence and strategic maneuvers in the music industry.
