Tom Holland shoots new Spider-Man scenes adding more humour and a villain twist
Before Spider-Man hits cinemas, Holland stars in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, praising its practical effects

Tom Holland has revealed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day underwent additional filming recently, adding extra humour and expanding a villain plotline, though he stressed the movie already “works and sings as it is.” Speaking with GQ during his campaign for fitness brand Vuori, Holland said he returned to London to shoot new sequences that he described as “icing on the cake,” meant to enhance key moments without changing the core story.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the fourth Spider-Man instalment sees Peter Parker four years after the events of No Way Home, in a world that has forgotten him. As a powerful new threat emerges, Parker suits up once again and reunites with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. Holland stars alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Tramell Tillman and Michael Mando. The film is set for release on July 31 and its trailer recently became the first in history to cross one billion views.
Holland also discussed his upcoming role in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which hits cinemas on July 17. Calling it an “absolute masterpiece,” Holland praised Nolan’s dedication to practical effects, sharing how sequences he assumed were computer-generated were achieved entirely in-camera. He described the experience as awe-inspiring, even as a participant in the action scenes.
With two major releases approaching, Holland reiterated his commitment to theatrical cinema, describing it as a communal experience he wants to champion for the next decade. “I am a real advocate for theatrical and the cinema and the communal experience of sitting in a dark room and being entertained,” he said, adding that he hopes to strengthen partnerships with studios to ensure cinemas remain central to movie culture.
As fans await Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland’s insights suggest a film that balances the original story with fresh humour, unexpected plot layers, and visually striking sequences that promise to thrill audiences worldwide.
