Harrison Ford confirmed for ‘Shrinking’ season 4 with optimistic ending and fresh storylines

Jason Segel, Jessica Williams and the rest of the Shrinking cast will reprise roles as Season 4 begins filming

Harrison Ford is officially returning for Season 4 of Shrinking, as creator Bill Lawrence confirmed the series will continue after the emotional conclusion of Season 3. The third season, which wrapped on Apple TV this week, ended with a poignant finale resolving key storylines, particularly Jimmy Laird’s journey from grief to moving forward after losing his wife.

Ford, who plays Dr. Paul Rhoades, called his work on the series “one of the most pleasurable experiences” of his career. He joined the cast at a PaleyFest LA panel in Hollywood, where he confirmed his participation in the upcoming season. The fourth season will also see the return of Jason Segel as Jimmy, Jessica Williams as Gaby, Lukita Maxwell as Alice, Luke Tennie as Sean, Christa Miller as Liz, Michael Urie as Brian, and Ted McGinley as Derek, all continuing their character arcs in new directions.

Lawrence explained that while Season 4 will feel different because the characters are in new places, the story remains grounded in the established world. “There’s some stuff in the third year that is left unresolved, and it hints that the next year will be different because of what characters are doing and where they’re going,” he said, promising that the new season will retain familiar sets and the show’s sense of found family.

Key developments will include Paul’s continued battle with Parkinson’s disease, Alice navigating college life near Paul’s new Connecticut home, and Gaby taking over Paul’s practice to open a crisis therapy clinic. The series will also explore family milestones for Liz and Derek, and further challenges for Jimmy as he builds a second relationship.

Guest star Michael J. Fox, who appeared as a fellow Parkinson’s patient in Season 3, is expected to return, while Jeff Daniels may reprise his role as Jimmy’s father, Randy Laird. Cobie Smulders is also set to appear, continuing her connection to Jimmy’s evolving story.

Lawrence stressed that the series is far from reaching a conclusion, saying the team is committed to exploring the characters’ growth and new storylines. “We aren’t going into this next season feeling like it’s the last one. There will always be material,” he said. With writing underway and filming set to begin, fans can expect Shrinking Season 4 to blend optimism, humor, and heartfelt storytelling while remaining true to the characters audiences love.
