Comedian Martin Short made a memorable appearance as the guest host for "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Monday night.
During his monologue, Short took the opportunity to poke fun at a variety of public figures, including former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, and his long-time friend Steve Martin.
Short began by seeking guidance from Kimmel’s sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez. “What would Jimmy usually do right now?” he asked. Guillermo’s response was straightforward: “He would be talking about Donald Trump.”
Short jumped right into political satire, quipping, “Well, I guess you can’t go to Outback Steakhouse without ordering the Bloomin’ Onion.” He then launched into a series of jokes about Trump’s potential running mates.
Short humorously noted, “Donald Trump says he’s close to announcing his running mate, and has reportedly narrowed it down to three people. It was four, but O.J. died, so…”
Continuing with his sharp political commentary, Short highlighted J.D. Vance as one of Trump's most likely picks.
He recounted Vance's previous critical remarks about Trump, saying, “[He] said he thought Trump was either a cynical asshole like Nixon, or America’s Hitler. When have you ever said something like that about someone, and then changed your mind?”
Short didn’t spare Biden either, addressing Trump’s baseless claims that Biden would take special drugs for debates. He combined this with a jab at Biden's age: “He’s something, that Trump.
He says he wants them both to submit to a drug test before the debate. Do you have any idea how long it takes to get a urine sample from men who are close to 80? I’m 74, and the only time I don’t have to pee is when I’m peeing.”

The monologue took a lighter turn when Steve Martin, Short’s long-time comedic partner, joined him on stage.
The two exchanged playful insults, with Martin commenting, “I was honored when Jimmy asked me to be the first guest host, but I said no. I said, ‘you’ll be able to find someone who’ll do it for scale. Don’t you worry.’”
Short responded with, “I really do appreciate you being here, Steve. There are very few people in this world that I truly admire, and Steve Martin is very close to being one of them.”
Martin got the final laugh, adding, “I love Marty. He’s one of the hardest working men in show business because it just doesn’t come naturally to him… And let me tell you, what a joy it is for me to work with someone who looks like a former women’s tennis champion.”
As Martin exited the stage, Short ended with a humorous farewell, “Walk toward the light, Steve! Walk toward the light!”
