Jon Bon Jovi is gearing up for a return to the stage.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE during the unveiling of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's newest exhibit dedicated to his band, the 62-year-old rock icon discussed his comeback to live performances following vocal cord surgery.

When questioned about whether he's regaining his vocal prowess with Bon Jovi's latest album, Forever, Jon responded affirmatively, stating, "I guess I am."

Regarding his experience performing in front of live audiences again, the musician remarked, "We performed last night in Nashville, and everything was very good."

"So step by step, I'm getting back to it," adds the father of four. (He shares daughter Stephanie, 31, and sons Jesse, 29, Jake, 22, and Romeo, 20, with wife Dorothea Bongiovi.)

Jon candidly discussed his vocal cord challenges in his latest documentary series, "Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story."

In the documentary, the iconic musician revealed that he first encountered the vocal cord problems in approximately 2015 but chose not to confront them until he had a pivotal conversation with his wife during a tour in 2022, which he described as "devastating." It was at this point that he recognized he had the option to either seek medical assistance or retire.
