Daniel Radcliffe “really sad” about JK Rowling’s stance on gender identity

The Harry Potter actor has voiced his unwavering support for the transgender community

Daniel Radcliffe has recently expressed his disappointment in J.K. Rowling's stance on gender identity. 

Radcliffe, who has not spoken directly to Rowling since her 2020 statements on the topic, expressed sadness over the situation in an interview with The Atlantic.

The controversy began in 2020, when Rowling objected to an article's use of the phrase “people who menstruate” saying “I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

The statement was met by a backlash.

In a sharp response to her critics, including Radcliffe and other Harry Potter alumni, Rowling stood firm.

He recalled the empathetic nature of the world Rowling created and his personal interactions with her, highlighting a stark contrast to her current stance. 

In 2020, Radcliffe publicly had supported the trans community through a statement with the Trevor Project, emphasising that his intention was not to spark a feud but to support those hurt by Rowling’s expression of her own views.

Radcliffe acknowledged Rowling’s critical role in his career but maintained that one's life beliefs shouldn't be compromised by past associations.
