Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood producer whose sexual misconduct sparked the #MeToo movement, has been hospitalised in New York days after his 2020 rape conviction was overturned.

His lawyer, Arthur Aidala, confirmed the 72-year-old was transferred on Saturday to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan for medical evaluation.

Aidala expressed concern about Weinstein's deteriorating health, describing him as "somewhat of a train wreck health-wise."

Weinstein, who is still incarcerated due to a separate rape conviction in Los Angeles, reportedly suffers from cardiac issues, diabetes, sleep apnea, and eye problems.

Weinstein's legal troubles are far from over.  Despite having his New York conviction overturned due to procedural concerns, prosecutors intend to retry him on the same charges.  Weinstein maintains his innocence in all cases.

His New York conviction stemmed from allegations by former production assistant Mimi Haleyi and former aspiring actress Jessica Mann.

However, the New York Court of Appeals ruled the trial unfair due to the inclusion of testimony from women whose accusations were not part of the formal charges.

The decision to overturn Weinstein's conviction drew sharp criticism from many of his accusers, who saw it as a setback for the #MeToo movement. Weinstein's legal team, however, hailed the ruling as a victory for defendants' rights.
