Police claim killing five suspected street criminals in a week

The Defence police apprehended a mugger in an injured state following a reported shootout near Shaukat Khanum Hospital, Phase VII between Sunday and Monday evening. He was transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medical care.

As per the Karachi Police spokesperson, the injured bandit was recognized as Saddam, 20, while his accomplice successfully fled under the cover of darkness. A pistol, ammunition, mobile phone and money were confiscated from his possession.

Furthermore, two bandits were arrested by the Gulshan-e-Mayamr police after an alleged exchange of fire at Gabol Goth Labor Square on Monday morning. They were then transported to Civil Hospital. As stated by the Karachi Police representative, the arrested bandits were identified as Sonu, 22, and Sameer, 18.

A pistol with bullets, mobile phones, cash, a motorcycle, and other stolen items were recovered from their possession.

Meanwhile, Karachi police have reported the killing of five suspected street criminals over the past week during the ongoing crackdown across the city against outlaws, alongside the arrest of 42 suspects, including 32 wounded robbers.

A spokesperson for Karachi police said that the police department has intensified efforts to combat street crimes. Alongside the five reported fatalities, the police apprehended 42 suspects, with the recovery of 43 illegal weapons and 18 motorcycles from them, all of which have been sent for forensic examination.

"Last week, the police conducted raids across the east, west, and south zones of the city, leading to the arrest of a total of 977 suspects during the ongoing anti-narcotics operations. They seized 72.294 kg of various narcotics, including hashish, heroin, ice, crystal, and four bottles of liquor valued at lakhs of rupees from different areas," said the spokesperson.

Moreover, police efforts yielded the confiscation of 136 different types of illegal weapons and ammunition commonly used in robberies and other criminal activities. Furthermore, the officers have recovered a total of 60 stolen motorcycles and four vehicles during operations in various areas, all of which were impounded.

The spokesperson reiterated the police's commitment to tackle crime and maintaining law and order, and safeguarding the public, emphasising that these efforts will persist.
