KARACHI:

As many as 41,000 candidates appeared in the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) 2023 which was re-conducted in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Larkana divisions on Sunday.

At Karachi’s Expo Centre, where 15,000 candidates appeared, Sindh’s Caretaker Health Minister Dr Saad Khalid Niaz said that there were no reports of paper leaks this time, reiterating the government’s commitment to the integrity of the examination process.

The decision to reorganise the MDCAT-2023 was taken by the Provincial Health Department on September 10 following a paper leak before the examinations. Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) was tasked to conduct the exam, which offered 3,600 seats for MBBS and 1,190 seats for BDS.

DUHS Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Nazli Hussain, informed the media that a total of 15,000 students from Karachi appeared in the MDCAT. The examination was also conducted simultaneously in Larkana, Hyderabad, and Nawabshah, with 13,000, 4,000, and 9,000 candidates, respectively.

Security was a priority, with all agencies, including Dow University Security, police, and Rangers, collaborating to maintain order. Students were permitted to bring only their admit cards and identity cards.
