ISLAMABAD:

The rich culture and traditions of Balochistan took centre stage at the Lok Mela, drawing visitors into a mesmerising world of arts, crafts, and cultural exhibits from the province.

The Balochistan pavilion, thoughtfully curated by the Balochistan Culture Department captivated the attention of visitors with its immersive showcase of Balochi culture, encompassing art, craftsmanship, rituals, age-old traditions, delectable cuisine, and enthralling folk entertainment.

The Balochistan pavilion is located at the centre of the festival ground. The entrance of the pavilions welcomes visitors through the beautifully designed gates showing typical Balochi culture and architecture, it feels as if they are in Balochistan. The pavilion is marked with various crafts including wooden boat making, embroidery, woodwork, peesh (basketry) work, beadwork, traditional shoe making, jewellery making, leather embroidery, and khaddar weaving.

Once visitors arrive at the festival, it becomes impossible to ignore the alluring aroma emanating from the traditional Balochi Sajji, a speciality of Balochistan. This culinary delight involves the skewering of chicken or, on occasion, an entire lamb on wooden spits, seasoned solely with salt and slow-roasted over burning coals for several hours.
