KARACHI:

Murtaza Wahab has been elected unopposed as the chairman of the Union Council (UC) of Ibrahim Hyderi, effectively meeting the prerequisite for his mayorship by winning the by-elections.

Wahab, facing political and legal battle for being nominated mayor without winning a seat in the local government elections, cleared the final hurdle to his mayoral seat.

He had submitted his nomination papers for the chairmanship of three UCs in Karachi.

However, in UC8 of the Ibrahim Hyderi Town of Malir district, two opposing candidates withdrew their nomination papers, resulting in the issuance of Form 7 by the returning officer to confirm Wahab's victory.
