Dream Girl 2 is officially on Netflix! The film, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Pandey, is a sequel to the first Dream Girl offering. However, it seems to be disconnected from its predecessor, given that the first instalment had a climax with more or less the same cast, save the female lead.
Regardless, whether or not the stories are connected has no bearing on why Dream Girl 2 must be seen. If it's anything like the first offering, it's bound to pack powerful comedic punches, twists, and a whole lot more. Therefore, here are five reasons why you should watch the film this weekend on Netflix:
1. The pairing
While a lot of people write off Ananya as an actor, and, admittedly, she is yet to prove her mettle like her contemporaries, starring opposite Ayushmann is a win on its own. The star, who has always opted for unique, out-of-the-box roles makes the best come out in all those with whom he shares a screen. Perhaps, some of that magic will rub off in this scenario as well.
2. Ayushmann
To say that the star is a talented performer would be an understatement. A multifaceted, often overlooked actor, Ayushmann can, quite literally, do it all. No, really. He can sing, he can dance, he can act, and, if the Dream Girl series is to be believed, he can pull off acting like a woman with immense ease. All we need now is a film in which he plays both the male and female lead. Pair Ayushmann with Ayushmann - why not?
3. Pooja
Anyone who has seen the first instalment knows what a wild ride the film can be. Not only is it exceptionally hilarious, but it's also the right amount of eccentric, wacky, and zany. At no point is one bored during the film's run-time, and a large portion of the credit goes to Ayushmann as Pooja. He truly immerses himself into the character, almost to the point where one questions whether Pooja's spirit leaves Ayushmann's body at all. Give the man an award for playing Pooja, honestly. You just have to see it to believe it.
4. The songs
While a vast majority of the songs are forgettable, what one truly cannot erase from their mind is Ayushmann performing as Pooja. When he's Pooja, he is no one else, and it shows. He slips into the avatar for songs as well, which is why Dil Ka Telephone lives in many people's minds rent-free. Now, with Dil Ka Telephone 2.0, audiences get more Ayushmann and Pooja, which is a pretty great deal.
5. The cast
While Ayushmann is the backbone of the film, the rest of the cast is exceptional in creating a humorous environment as well. Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav join the likes of Annu Kapoor and Vijay Raaz in the second iteration, strengthening an already promising cast. The mixing and matching of all these different talents is bound to be a cinematic feast like no other.
All in all, if you're not doing much else, you should definitely include watching Dream Girl 2 in your weekend plans. Make it a double feature, if you've got the time, by watching the first one as well, preparing yourself for laughs and a whole lot of Pooja.
