Over 174,000 candidates to appear for NMDCAT

More than 189,000 had applied for medical admission test

ISLAMABAD:

A total of 174,196 candidates have successfully enrolled themselves with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to appear for the NMDCAT.

Around 200,000 candidates were planning to appear for the national medical and dental college admission test.

However, the number of candidates, who applied for the test, stood at 189,261.

According to a PMDC spokesperson, 9,804 seats were reserved at state-run medical universities countrywide.

The spokesperson added that 11,515 seats were allocated for medical students at private universities.

He continued that overall, 21,319 seats were reserved for students throughout the country in both state-run and private universities.

The PMDC has allotted the province-wise seats for the NMDCAT.

It has reserved the highest number of seats – 10,049 – for Punjab,

They include 3,680 seats for regular medical and 294 for dental students in public universities.

The seats reserved in Punjab also included 4,900 for regular medical and 1,175 dental students in private universities.

In Sindh, the number of seats reserved for medical students stood at 5,540.

The seats allocated in Sindh included 2,450 for regular medical and 500 dental students in state-run universities.

Similarly, the number of seats reserved in the private universities of the province included 1,850 and 740 for regular medical and dental students, respectively.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the total number of seats reserved for students at medical universities came to 3,310.

They include 1,466 and 319 seats for regular medical and dental students in state-run universities, respectively.

A total of 1,200 seats have been reserved for regular medical students in the private universities of K-P.

Similarly, 325 seats have been reserved for dental students in the private universities of the province.

In Balochistan, a total of 765 seats have been reserved.

They include 536 and 79 seats for regular medical and dental students in public universities, respectively.

Only 150 seats have been reserved for the students of private universities in the province.

No seats have been reserved for dental students in the private universities of Balochistan.

The number of seats reserved for medical students in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) stood at 1,225.

They include 100 and 50 seats for regular medical and dental students in state-run universities, respectively.

In ICT, 750 seats have been reserved in private universities.

A total of 325 seats have been reserved in private universities for dental students in ICT.

The number of seats reserved for the medical students of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) stood at 430.

Out of these, 330 seats for regular medical students have been reserved in public universities.

A total of 100 seats for regular medical students have been reserved in private universities.

No seats for dental students have been reserved in state-run or private universities in AJK.

The PMDC had extended the dates of August 6 and 7 for admission or any amendment.

The NMDCAT admission portal was closed by the PMDC on August 7 at midnight.

The admission portal was extended so that students, who wanted to make any change, had all options including the change of centre.

The PMDC has decided to conduct the NMDCAT on August 27.

However, the candidates wanted the date to be delayed.

The members of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health also talked about extending the date of the NMDCAT.

But the health secretary told the panel that many arrangements had to be made.

He added that the date of August 27 was fixed according to everyone’s opinion and unanimous decision.

The secretary informed the committee that if its members wanted, the date could be extended by two more days.

However, the PMDC has not yet announced any extension in the date for the NMDCAT.
