ISLAMABAD:

The government has decided to extend the duration of the tenure of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) chairman and other members from three to four years.

The amendment in law to extend the duration of the service of the FPSC officials has been given the nod by both houses of parliament.

After the president’s asssent, it will become an act of parliament.

The National Assembly Secretariat will then issue a gazette notification for this purpose.

However, the FPSC chairman and other members will not be able to serve after reaching the age of 65 years.

A new post of FPSC deputy chairman has also been created in case the head of the institution was not appointed or absent.

The deputy can be appointed for three months only so that there is no disruption in the affairs of the institution.

Separately, the government has approved the promotion of more than 300 officers to grades 20 and 21 on the recommendation of the Central Selection Board (CSB) meeting.

FPSC Chairman Capt (retd) Shahid Ashraf Tarar held a meeting of the CSB from August 1 to 4 and recommended the promotion of officials working in the Pakistan Administrative Service; Police Service of Pakistan; Secretariat Group; Foreign Service of Pakistan; Pakistan Customs Service; Inland Revenue Service; Military Land and Cantonment Group; Commerce and Trade Group; Information Group,; Postal Group; Railway Group; and Economist Group to grades 20 and 21.
