A newly-married man was killed and his bride was injured in firing in Pehlwan Goth within Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
According to the police, the brother of the bride opened fire on the couple in the name of honour and fled the scene. The deceased and the injured girl got married a month ago against the permission of the family.
The body of the deceased and the injured girl were shifted to Jinnah Hospital. The deceased was identified as 26-year-old Muhammad Safdar, son of Fazal Karim, while the injured girl was identified as 20-year-old Zahra Batool daughter of Abrar Hussain.
The woman was hit by a bullet above the left eye, almost near the temple, which pierced the brain while Safdar received two bullets on his waist and one below his neck which proved fatal. The injured girl is in the intensive care unit of the neurology ward and her condition is said to be critical.
On receiving the information about the incident, SHO Gulistan-e-Jauhar Inspector Iftikhar Arain rushed to Jinnah Hospital. However, none of the relatives of the injured woman and the deceased reached the hospital. The deceased hailed from Tehsil Jalalpur Pirwala of Multan while the injured woman belonged to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Safdar was an employ of a restaurant in Pehlwan Goth and also lived in the same vicinity. He and Zahra Batool loved each other and both of them got married without the permission of the family about a month ago. Zahra’s mother knew about the marriage.
On Sunday, Batool’s mother had invited her daughter and son-in-law to her house. Meanwhile, Batool’s brother Abbas Hussain suddenly came home late at night, and when he saw his sister and Safdar in the house, he took out his pistol and opened fire on them and fled.
