Sindh Assembly passes a bevy of crucial legislations

The Sindh Assembly on Wednesday cleared a bevy of crucial legislations, including the Sindh Faculty of Paramedical and Allied Health Sciences Bill, University of Mirpurkhas Bill, Sindh Higher Education Amendment Bill, Sindh Land Revenue Amendment Bill, and Sindh Medico-Legal Bill. These legislative developments hold immense importance for the advancement of healthcare and education sectors in the province.

During the session, Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla introduced the Sindh Medico-Legal Bill, highlighting the pressing need for a more scientific and systematic approach from crime scenes to hospitals.

The primary objective of this bill is to ensure justice is served based on irrefutable evidence and absolute truth. This legislation establishes a robust framework for dealing with criminal activities and upholding the principles of fairness and justice. Furthermore, the bill encompasses provisions for the comprehensive training of nursing staff, elevating the standard of healthcare services across the province. The house passed this critical bill, acknowledging its profound impact on the legal and medical spheres.

Another noteworthy development was the unanimous passage of the Sindh Land Revenue Amendment Bill, which envisages the renaming of the Revenue Service Centre as the People’s Service Centre. This move reinforces the centre’s unwavering commitment to serving the diverse and vibrant populace of Sindh.

During the deliberations on this bill, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) member Arif Jatoi proposed an amendment, advocating that the centre be renamed as the “Sindh People’s Service Centre” or “Pakistan Peoples Service Centre,” to better reflect and celebrate its regional identity. However, after a discussion, the house decided to proceed with the original nomenclature as presented by Chawla and approved the bill.
