'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' star-studded premiere: Bollywood elites attend, Deepika skips

Karan Johar’s directorial comeback, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, is all set to hit the Indian theatres on July 28, but a special screening - attended by the who’s who of Bollywood - was held in Mumbai on Tuesday, reported India Today.

Apart from the lead cast, comprising Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the premiere was attended by Ranbir Kapoor (Bhatt’s husband), as well as Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer’s wife, however, was notably absent.

Ranbir and Alia arrived at the event in matching outfits that stated ‘Team Rocky Aur Rani’. Ranveer arrived at the special screening solo but also opted for a ‘Team Rocky Aur Rani’ sweatshirt. Although Deepika was not in attendance, the event proved to be a success with the presence of many Bollywood elites. The reason behind the Bajirao Mastani star’s absence was her several work commitments.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani reunites the Gully Boy couple in starring roles, as well as other notable actors such as Jaya Bachchan in pivotal roles, making it a highly anticipated release. Neetu Kapoor also made a presence at the special screening to show support for her daughter-in-law, Alia, as this also marks her first film since giving birth to her daughter, Raha.

It also marks Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut in Bollywood, taking after his sister Sara Ali Khan. The film, in which Alia stars as a Bengali girl and Ranveer as a Punjabi boy, is a “superhit” according to Ranbir, who in overwhelmingly positive review of it said, “Kamaal Hai” post the special screening. Katrina termed the movie as “amazing” and Vicky also shared positive reviews of the film after the screening.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is Karan’s first movie since he directed the 2016 romantic-drama, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and is therefore eagerly awaited by film enthusiasts and Bollywood fans around the world.

The film promises to be an intense love story exploring the interplay between relationships and family dynamics. The special screening was nevertheless a star-studded affair with the presence of Bollywood crème de la creme. The anticipation surrounding the upcoming seems to be growing greater with every passing day.
