Crackdown launched against transporters

At least 40 buses impounded over missing fitness certificates, route permits

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Omer Jehangir directed the officers concerned to launch a comprehensive crackdown against transporters charging extra fares from passengers during the Eid holidays.

Acting on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, the district Regional Transport Authority (RTA), under the supervision of Secretary RTA Rana Mohsin, formed special teams for the verification of fitness certificates, route permits and fares. RTA teams impounded 40 buses over missing fitness certificates and route permits during the crackdown.

Secretary RTA said that the inspection teams were ordered to ensure the implementation of fare lists announced by the district government to facilitate the public. He said that government aimed to provide relief to the public so they could return to their homes on the occasion of Eidu Azha.

He added that fare lists and complaint numbers have been displayed at each bus stand, further stating that the fitness of all commercial vehicles was being ensured strictly after the recent incident in Kallar Kahar, in order to prevent any mishap.
