Factory sealed for making harmful snacks

PFA raids factory, seizes harmful chemicals

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a factory for manufacturing unhealthy snacks for children in Taxila.

The factory owner used boric acid and other harmful chemicals in the production of the snacks to gain high profits, the food authorities said.

PFA food safety teams raided the factory on Tuesday morning and seized boric acid and other harmful chemicals used in manufacturing the snacks.

The PFA authorities immediately sealed the factory. The PFA authorities said that legal action has been initiated against the factory owner as he was committing serious violations of production rules and regulations.

The PFA also conducted another operation near Committee Chowk Rawalpindi and a supplier of adulterated tea leaves was caught. About 120 kilograms of harmful tea leaves were recovered from him and destroyed.

A chicken shop and a hotel were also fined for poor sanitation. Action was also taken against a grocery store for selling expired spices.

Officials said that providing healthy food to the citizens is the priority of the authority.
