Motorist held for 'abusing' traffic cops

MURREE:

Police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly misbehaving and hurling threats to traffic policemen while pretending to be the chancellor of a university.

Traffic police officials were threatened and misbehaved with after stopping a vehicle with no number plate and tinted windows at Jhika Gali Chowk.

During routine traffic checking at Jhika Gali Chowk, a suspicious vehicle without a number plate and fitted with black-tinted windows was stopped, and when documents were requested, the driver became aggressive. He introduced himself as the Chancellor of Nawab Shah University and allegedly issued serious threats to Beat Incharge Malik Hafeez.

The suspect, without producing any identification or documents, fled the scene while continuing to hurl threats at the officials, saying: "Who are you to stop my vehicle? Do whatever you want."

Taking notice of the incident, Murree DPO Raza Tanveer ordered immediate blockades, following which the suspect was apprehended and shifted to Phagwari Police Station.

According to police sources, the suspect later admitted his mistake at the police station and tendered an apology to the traffic police and Malik Hafeez. He was subsequently released after being issued a heavy fine challan.
