Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has written a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the interference of Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Haji Ghulam Ali in the affairs of the caretaker government.
The Provincial President of PTI, Pervez Khattak, wrote a letter to the ECP in which he adopted the position that K-P Governor is allegedly interfering in the matters of the caretaker government.
The ECP should take notice of the undue interference of the governor and play its role to ensure the conduct of fair and transparent elections.
The governor is the representative of federation in the province, but Haji Ghulam Ali is interfering in the matters of appointments and transfers, which is equivalent to influencing the upcoming elections.
Governor K-P is working as a political worker, and undue interference in the matter of caretaker government can affect fair and transparent elections.
In order to ensure the conduct of fair and transparent elections, the ECP should stop the governor from interfering unnecessarily in the powers of the caretaker cabinet. Pervez Khattak said that as the PTI provincial president, he has written to the ECP to take notice of the K-P Governor’s political role as de facto chief executive.
The alleged interference in postings and transfers is even more worrisome. With the government’s reputation at stake, the ECP must ensure that Chief Minister Azam Khan works independently.
