An FIR has been registered against PML Q leaders Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain and his son Moosa Elahi at the Ghalib Market police station over an audio clip purportedly related to conspiring to abduct a female parliamentarian.
Wajahat had supported Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s decision to contest election of chief minister with the support of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The decision caused a split in the party.
The former chief minister condemned the registration of the FIR and said no case against a political activist had been registered during his five-month government.
Earlier, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry was arrested by a police team in a case registered against him in Islamabad on the complaint of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) secretary.
The new Inspector General of Punjab Police, Usman Anwar, had announced after taking charge that those causing a law and order situation would be sternly dealt with.
There were reports that the police had been making preparations including gathering riot gear, tear gas shells, batons, barricades and barbed wire to deal with agitation.
In his media talk that had led to his arrest, Fawad Chaudhry had asked for the removal of Lahore Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana who is criticised by PTI leaders over leading a crackdown on May 25th last year to stop a long march on Islamabad.
