Woman ‘tortured by husband, in-laws’ dies

Victim had been struggling for life for 16 days

A woman who was allegedly tortured and burnt by her in-laws in Kahna earlier this week succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on Tuesday. Police registered a case against the victim’s husband, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law upon the woman’s statement before her death and arrested all the four accused.

Naureen was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws in Nespak Society in Kahna area. She died in hospital after struggling for life for 16 days.

Before her death, the victim alleged in a police statement that her husband Raheel, along with his family, tortured her, doused her in petrol and set her on fire. The victim’s body was badly burnt in the incident and her in-laws treated her at home for six days to hide the crime.

As the victim’s condition worsened, she was shifted to Jinnah Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and died in the hospital on Tuesday.

Police took the body and shifted it to the mortuary for a post-mortem. Acting on the victim’s final statement, a case was registered against Raheel, the victim’s brother-in-law Adeel, his wife Anam and mother-in-law Sajida.`
