Six of a family killed in Bajaur roof collapse

The deceased include five children, according to local tribesmen

Six people were killed and another six were critically injured when a roof collapsed in Bajauar tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.

Local residents told The Express Tribune that five children were also among the dead.

The tragic incident happened in Khar area of Bajaur where the roof of a room caved in suddenly last night.

“Sultan is a daily wage earner whose family was living in a rented house and the roof of a room collapsed due to disrepair in which six people including Nadia Bibi, 8, Rabia, 4, Umaira, 10, Fatima, 8, Aysha 10 and Ismail, 18.

All of them belong to one family. Local resident informed Rescue 1122 whose teams reached the spot and carried out rescue operation.

All of the injured were rushed to the local hospital where their condition is stated to be serious.

The last rites of the deceased were offered and then the bodies were sent to ancestral graveyard for burial.

Local residents demanded of the government to announce compensation for the families of the victims as they lost everything in the incident.

It may be worth mentioning here that roof collapse incidents are widespread in Bajaur and other parts of the tribal districts as people live in mud houses and these houses needed constant repairs to keep them intact.

Most people ignore yearly repairs due to financial constraints as a result even after a rain spell, roof and wall collapse incidents happen in routine.
