RAWALPINDI:

Following the formation of three new tehsils in Rawalpindi district, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to begin the delimitation process of union councils, cantonment wards, and national and provincial assembly constituencies in these tehsils afresh.

According to sources, the delimitation process will be conducted in the City, Saddar and Cantt tehsils of the district. The district election commission has finalised the maps of the newly-formed tehsils after meeting with the deputy commissioner and the treasury department officials, sources said.

The process of finalising maps by the ECP in collaboration with the treasury department and the deputy commissioner’s office reportedly continued till late Sunday night.

Sources said after demarcating the boundaries of these three tehsils, delimitation of UCs, wards and national, provincial assembly constituencies will be completed.

It’s likely that the provincial constituencies in all three districts will go under change, sources added.

After the scrutiny of the maps, the new constituencies will be notified in the next 10 days, they said, adding that UCs and municipal committees will also be formed in these tehsils.

Assets, vehicles and employees of the old tehsil of Rawalpindi are being divided equally among the new tehsils, sources said.
