‘Make Urdu official language as per Supreme Court ruling’

Urdu moot ends amid calls for giving importance to all languages of country

The 15th International Urdu Conference concluded at Pakistan Arts Council, Karachi, with resolutions calling for granting Urdu the status of national and official language, as per the Supreme Court ruling and giving importance to all languages of the country.

Presiding over the concluding ceremony, Dr Huma Mir gave a brief overview of the 15th International Urdu Conference and congratulated Pakistan Arts Council, Karachi, President Muhammad Ahmad Shah and his team for the tremendous success of the conference.

On this occasion, 14 resolutions were presented for promoting the Urdu language and literature, which were approved by the audience. The resolutions included making the Urdu language an official language as soon as possible regarding orders of the Supreme court, steps for the promotion of library culture in the country, availability of print papers for the printing of books, the establishment of translation institutions in universities, measures to improve the education system in the country, steps for eradicating extremism, condemning human rights violations in Kashmir and elsewhere, supporting democracy and freedom of expression and others.

In the closing session, the President of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Ahmed Shah, thanked all the guests and attendees. Earlier in the closing session, well-known humorist Anwar Maqsood said that the President of Arts Council Karachi, Ahmed Shah, is working to develop knowledge and literature in this age of impoliteness. He said that the country's poor people ask the rulers not to defame the nation by begging in the name of Pakistan.

He added that poets and writers from India used to come to the International Urdu Conference. Now, all we get are threats. Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tesori was the chief guest of the concluding session on the last day of the 15th World Urdu Conference organised by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.

Commissioner Karachi M Iqbal Memon, Secretary Arts Council Ejaz Farooqi, members of the governing body, poets, writers and other prominent personalities from different walks of life also attended the event.

The traditional music of Sindh was also played during Sindhi Culture Day, on which enthusiastic fans danced to the tunes and celebrated the Sindh Culture Day.
