RAWALPINDI:

On the completion of one year of agreement between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on November 25, the post of Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) vice president will be handed over to the latter for one year.

After PML-N vice president Chaudhry Changiz Khan resigns from his position, JI’s Khalid Mahmood Mirza will become vice president for one year and subsequently, Khan will reassume the charge of the post, as per the agreement after the completion of one year period as the JI will return the post of vice president to the PML-N.

It will be the first time in the local politics of Rawalpindi, that the JI will be able to hold the position of CCB vice president.

It should be noted that in the CCB elections, the JI had won from two constituencies, and PML-N from five, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had won from two constituencies and an independent candidate had bagged victory from a constituency with the PTI’s support.

Thus, the success of PML-N, JI and PTI on five seats each had created a difficult situation for the vice president slot. However, the agreement reached between PML-N’s former MNA Malik Abrar Ahmed, former mayor Sardar Naseem Khan, former MNA Haji Parvez Khan, Daniyal Chaudhry and JI’s district amir Syed Arif Shirazi, naib amir Raza Ahmad Shah, in which JI’s George Shahzad was selected for two years on the seat reserved for the minority.

PML-N’s Chaudhry Khurram Siddique was selected as Kisaan (farmer) Member Cantonment for four years and PML-N’s Chaudhry Changiz Khan was elected as CCB vice president for the first year.

It was decided that on completion of one year on November 25, 2022, the post of vice president will be given to JI’s Khalid Mirza for one year and after one year it will be returned to the PML-N. Similarly, after two years, the JI will withdraw its minority member, George Shehzad, and return the post to the PML-N.
