298 new dengue cases reported

Teams survey over 400,000 indoor locations for larvae

As many as 298 cases of dengue virus were reported in Punjab, as well as two deaths, during the last 24 hours. According to health department sources, the two deaths were reported in Lahore. A total of 12,974 cases of dengue virus were recorded during the current year, while 16 people died from the virus and 1,072 patients were under treatment in different hospitals across the province.

The Punjab Primary & Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) reported 143 cases of dengue in Lahore, 52 in Rawalpindi, 34 in Multan, 23 in Gujranwala, 10 in Sheikhupura, 6 cases each in Kasur, Faisalabad and Narowal, 3 cases each in Sialkot and Muzaffargarh, 2 cases each in Jhelum, Sahiwal and Vehari and one case each in Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Jhang, Layyah, Rahimyar Khan and Sargodha during the last 24 hours.

All suspected cases of dengue were kept under surveillance and their tests were being conducted. The P&SHD’s anti-dengue squad destroyed dengue larvae at 2,807 locations across the province during continuous daily surveillance. The anti-dengue squad surveyed 441,570 indoor and 112,560 outdoor locations to detect larvae during the last 24 hours.

The P&SHD urged the people to adopt precautionary measures and keep their environment clean and dry to protect themselves from dengue.
